Feldbattalion Verden on Parade

So here they are, as promised the Hanoverian Field Battalion Verden. The figures are all vintage Hinton Hunt ones mustered from different sources over the last few years, stripped and repainted by me.

I love this 'casual pose' clearly they are far behind the front line.
Seems a bit unfair that the fifer and drummer have to work while everyone else is taking it easy.

2 x BN/8. Officer (standing)
1 x BN/11. Fifer (playing)
1 x BN/12. Drummer (playing)
1 x BN/13. Ensign Regiment Colour

Here's your chance to admire the other side of that flag.

Also hot off the desk is another French General painted to represent Jean-Baptiste Drouet (Comte d'Erlon). With the 110th anniversary of Waterloo rapidly approaching I thought it was about time that this gentleman was represented on my table.

I was surprised to read that d'Erlon did eventually become a marshal although not until 1843 some 22 years after Napoleon's death.

Hanoverian Command Figures

The Hanoverian Command figures are done and the whole unit is complete bar the basing which I will hopefully get around to in the next few days.

Nice to have officers with a yellow sash for a change.

The flag is another of my freehand efforts using a British Regimental flag figure as the base. I'm quite pleased with it although the lion is perhaps looking a bit more like Garfield than I would have liked.

This is the image I copied nicked from somewhere on the web - Hanover Kings Colour. There is some debate whether or not the units carried any colours at Waterloo but a unit without a flag just doesn't seem right.

When I started on this unit I prepped both a Regimental and Kings Colour figure as I had assumed the flags would be similar to British line units but apparently that's not so.

The regiment will be paraded soon then it's on with the Austrians.

Hanoverian Progress

Despite recent distractions and journeys down non-Hinton Hunt related rabbit holes I have been slowly working away at the Hanoverians. I'm actually at the point where I only have the officers and the standard bearer left to paint.

My painting source shows the musicians without reverse colours which makes for a bit of a change.

One of the 'distractions' that is Hinton Hunt related was the recent aquisition of these very nice Hungarian infantry castings. I've been looking to expand my Austrian army for a while but the lack of decent castings has been an issue so hopefully this will give me the shove I need to get on with it.

There are 12 x AN/25 Musketeer, firing and 12 x AN/27 Musketeer, marching.

I was a bit dubious about these as the photos on eBay showed the figures having very shiny new looking bases but having inspected them I'm happy they are the real deal.

Next week, if all goes well, will be the annual Muskets & Marshals game in the Hinton Hut. A full report will be posted here in due course.

More Allies for the Duke

Having completed the Belgians I decided I need one more unit of  allies for the Anglo-Dutch OOB. As I now have Belgians, Nassauers and Brunswickers I fancied a go at some Hanoverians. I know that bascially they are the same as British line but I do like painting units in red and as I have a fair few castings in the lead-pile it's a no-brainer.

BN/3. Private (casual pose)

I like this pose and have been wanting to paint a full unit of them for a while. This was one of the first British figures to be sculpted for the Hinton Hunt Napoleonic range and is very slender compared with later offerings but possesses bags of charm in my opinion.

On a different topic, I have recently gone through my collection of Miniature Warfare Magazines I bought in the period 1968 to 1974. I don't have every issue but there are many articles that I found inspiring back then and it is quite a task to plough through them looking for something in particular so I have taken the time to index my favourites.

During this process I found the advert below that I find intriguing.

This appeared in the October 1973 issue

I can't remember ever seeing any photos or other information on this event - anyone have any info?

Finally, if Hinton Hunt painting is a little slow here over the next couple of weeks it will be because I have embarked on a crazy solo refight of Gettysburg over on my ACW blog (click here).
