Wellington's Infantry on Parade

Following the recent French line infantry parade I thought it only fair to hold a similar review of Wellington's lads as the last such event was back in November 2022.

There are 192 Hinton Hunt figures arranged in 8 units.
The figures have been painted by me with the exception of The Guards and 95th Rifles (Matt G) and the 30th Foot (Lee).
The Rifle Brigade - 95th behind the 60th.
The Fusiliers followed by the 49th Foot.
The 30th Foot (Cambridgeshires) with the Naval Battalion behind.
The Foot Guards and the 42nd Black Watch.
If I'd had enough pocket money in 1972 I would have hoped to have something looking like this...

This gives me what I would call a 'standard' army for Muskets & Marshals of 8 infantry units, this being about the most units one player can comfortably command on the table.

The Belgians will be next - honest!

That's an inpressive show, a bit heavy on rifles so how about a unit in stovepipe - if you do the 28th they're good for the Peninsula or the Hundred Days.

Rob, you can never have too many Rifles or Scots Greys in a 1970s army! Believe it or not I have no HH Peninsula War line infantry. However, the 52nd are on the to do list so they will make up for the lack of stovepipes so far.

YES!!! You cannot beat Napoleonic-era British troops for color and pageantry.

Kind Regards,

Stokes

This is defiitely only a six-battalion army. The Rifles are all just 'auxiliairy' collections of independent companies. You need at LEAST two more close-order regiments!

That being said, this is the most perfect and authentic 1970s Napoleonic Army ever!

Best regards
WM

Thanks Stokes, glad you like them!

Drat it WM did you HAVE to say that - don't the allied forces count, Nassau, Brunswick etc?

Beautiful - thanks for this Ian. You are more than justified in being very proud (in a dignified way, of course) of these chaps.

Nice, impressive, great display.

THAT is a truly magnificent sight!

Allied forces only count at Waterloo, otherwise you still owe us two more line infantry Battalions! :) Your parade is a reminder that my British sailors are still unpainted, but at least stripped of their old paint, so one small step closer. One of these days I will climb to the top of Mount Leadmore. As for your British, Old Nosey would be proud to command that lot!

Thanks Norm, it’s sometimes good to get them out of their storage boxes and give them a bit of air!

Magnificent stuff Ian…
The Naval battalion is particularly nice … I have Marines but sadly no Sailors…

All the best. Aly

Thanks Aly, the sailors were some of the first figures I picked up at the start of this project but not enough for a full unit!

I echo everybody's oohs and ahs. What a fabulous sight. WM is, of course, correct, but why stop at two? Hmm, actually, I am in the throes of painting a new HH Brit battalion myself, and know exactly why you should stop.... The problem with numerous HH peninsula infantry is that he made them without packs, which is probably realistic for the wargames table but looks a bit unfinished to my eyes. Mind you, it's a small conversion from his Spanish figures...

Nigel, the plan of course is for more than two but I think it may be time to turn to some other allies first!
