I did say that the Belgians would be up next however, I
realised a while back that I had never finished the personality figures for the
British. So as a bit of a distraction, and for the sake of completeness, here
are the last two, starting with General Cooke.
BN/256 Maj. Gen. G. Cooke commanded 1st (Guards) Div. at Waterloo in general's uniform (horse BNH/11) |
I couldn’t find much info on Cooke other than, as I’m sure you all know, he commanded the 1st (Guards) Division at Waterloo where he also lost his right arm in the middle of the afternoon forcing him to pass over command to Byng.
Finally we have the Cavalry Staff Corps Trooper who, being nameless, can’t really be classed as a personality. This one is a bit of a quirky addition and was probably included in the range because of Mr Hinton’s love of uniforms.
I don’t have the painting instruction sheet for this one so I have painted him as a trooper of the 12th Light Dragoons.
I’ll post a full lineup of the Duke’s staff soon.

Lovely figures! The painting and collection of personality and staff is almost a sub-hobby on its own. Eager to see more as and when they gallop off the painting table.
Kind Regards,
Stokes
Thanks Stokes, and you’re right that collecting and painting these is a hobby within a hobby!
Super work on both figures, they really look lovely. They will fit in very nicely indeed!
Thanks Donnie, the Duke has quite a crowd now let’s hope they don’t attract the French artillery fire!
The British generals are pretty easy to paint as, apart from the aiguillettes, their uniform and, (especially) their shabraques, are pretty plain, but still rather elegant - very Beau Brummel.
Love the staff dragoon but interestingly Wikipedia saya their uniform should be red? I assume you went with Marcus' painting guide.
Rob, I didn’t have any info on the uniform so went with the Standard Light Dragoon but you’re right that Wiki says red although initially they had no standard uniform. I have another casting so may do it in red because it does look nice!
Very pretty Ian…
I have plans to paint lots of ‘Staff’ for my Shiny Napoleonics… I certainly don’t need them… but I really neeeeeed them 😁
I only wish there were more civilian figures out there to choose from…
All the best. Aly
Ally, the personality figures are one of my favourite things about the Hinton Hunt range and yes, your shiny troops do need lots of shiny staff!
Like others I admire the figures, your fine brushwork and the joy of these uniforms.
I'm sure they will add tone to your army as it deploys.
As for messengers uniforms - as the battle or campaign wore on, it would be necessary to call on the services of likely young men to replace casualties. Besides having two uniforms on the staff [when you paint another] will always be better than one. Osprey MAA 126 "Wellington's Light Cavalry" plate G has a Staff Corps corporal for 1814 with red tunic and blue facings.
Thanks as always for posting this - it's a pleasure to see.
Stephen
Thanks Stephen, I’m always telling Mrs S I should have bought more Osprey’s…
Nice work Ian - that should stiffen up a few lips, and they look absolutely splendid. I must say the ADC in LD uniform is super - also maybe more versatile than the Staff Corps uniform (though you should do one of those as well - you can never have too many sons of the aristocracy hanging around). Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Tony, the next son of the aristocracy is prepped and ready for painting!
He's been Cooked to perfection Ian! I also love the staff trooper trimmed out as a Light Dragoon. Every time I see your lovely personality figures I want to race back to the painting table and make a start on some new ones.
Thanks WM, the personality figures make a great break from painting whole units!
Very nice looking additions. Look like they have just stepped out from Horse Guards Parade.
Thanks Matt!
These are delightful Ian, and I am so glad you included the light cavalry courier. He is one of my favorite figures!
