A garrison for Hougoumont

I decided that I wanted a unit to represent the Coldstream Guards for our forthcoming refight of Waterloo. Last time we played the game in 2023 (link) the Nassauers were given the job of defending Hougoumont which although in terms of numbers may be justified, doesn't have the same appeal as a garrison comprised of the lads in red.

The unit will be made up of BN/4 Private (firing). This is the test figure.

My existing British Guard unit (who before were simply designated 'The Guards') will now become the Grenadier Guards. Production is well underway so hopefully they'll be ready for your inspection soon.

Will this be a full regiment or a skirmish unit? The latter is perhaps more in keeping with the light companies and other detachments sent to Hougoumont. They could defend it together with the Nassauers (and others) - I know your rules only allow one unit in a building, but Hougoumont's surely big enough for more?

Hougoumont garrisoned by the Coldstream....that will be impregnable. Oh, yes, it was, wasn't it? Lovely job on this guardsman.

He looks the part, very nice work the red really "pops"

Rob, it will be a full unit and be representative of the whole garrison. I have to keep the footprint of Hougoumont small otherwise it will dominate the table. The Nassauers will get Papelotte.

You're right Nigel - if last time you couldn't shift the Nassauers from Hougoumont what chance against the Coldstreams? I suggest you put in for a transfer!

Thanks Donnie, red is a 'proper' uniform colour.

Off to a promising start judging from the sample figure. Glad the Nassuaers will play a role at the other end of the table.

Kind Regards,

Stokes

Don't worry Stokes, I'm sure they'll get a few shots off!

Once again I love your crisp, bold painting style Ian, you have absolutely nailed it for these vintage model soldiers. The Regiment will look most impressive as indeed they should being the Coldstream.
Cheers,
Lee

Thanks Lee you can’t really beat the look of a unit of redcoats!

I'm a big fan of your all-firing regiments, Ian. That it'll be redcoats too on this occasion will make them even more delightful.

Thanks Matthew, this unit has been in the lead pile way too long so I’m excited to finally get around to them!

I love the look of the firing units as well, but I was slow to come to it unfortunately. At first I could not get over Marcus' "floating muskets", but now I must admit I love them. A great looking unit of distinction, with the British modifier for volley fire, what could go wrong?
