The Monster has escaped!

Napoleon has escaped from Elba with his Old Guard and is marching on Paris. Marshal Ney has been sent to stop him with the 5th regiment of the line.

"On to Grenoble my grumblers!"
"Men of the 5th do not let them pass!"

"Soldiers of the 5th do you recognise me? If you want to kill your emperor here I am!"
"FIRE!"
"What do you think Pierre?"
"Oh, what the heck..."

"Vive l'empereur, Vive l'France, Vive Napoleon!"
"Did you really say you'd bring me back to Paris in an iron cage?"
"What me? No, that was definitely Murat!"

The 5th regiment is complete.

The figures used are:

2 x FN/1 Officer (charging)
1 x FN/4 Colour bearer (charging)
19 x FN/5 Fusilier (charging)
1 x FN/6 Drummer (charging)
1 FN/8 Officer (marching)

Next up will be something not quite so French.

Very nice staging, however the flag of the 5th line should be white. Perhaps you could cover the tricolor flag with a white envelope surmounted by a spade and not an imperial eagle. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drapeau_de_la_France

*Laughter*. Napoleon wasn't "quite so French" himself if I recall correctly!

The 5th are yet another tour de force. Mind you, with all those officers you'd think they'd be a bit more disciplined.

Best regards
WM

WM, I do seem to have amassed quite a few officers which is why they are being liberally distributed through the ranks although clearly to little effect!

Another very worthy addition to those darn Frenchies!

Sweet! Although when we restaged it WM fired on me, his emperor! What a cad!

Matt, console yourself by thinking that it takes two French units to take out one Brit!

Rob, that’s taking alternate history too far!

Splendid…
Another lovely looking unit Ian…
All the best. Aly

Serious congratulations, Ian, I approach the prospect of a brand new unit with some trepidation these days. Three officers, eh? I suppose if every fusilier has a marshal's baton in his knapsack, there is pressure to start promoting some....

Thanks Aly!

Nigel, I’m seriously trying to ‘fill in the gaps’ of my OOB this year so it’s nose to the grind stone painting, well that’s the plan!
