The Red Lancers have taken their place alongside the Polish Lancers to complete my unit of Lancers of the Guard.
The figures used for the full unit are:
1 x FN/40 Officer (mounted) charging
1 x FN/41 Trumpeter (mounted) charging
7 x FN/43 Lancer (mounted) charging
3 x FN/44 Lancer (mounted) charging with separate lance
(all the castings are vintage ones)
Thanks to Tony for kindly providing the last few figures I needed to complete this unit.
They are great, now let's see if they will fight.
Of they might not with the Dutchmen in the lead rather than alongside. Perhaps they could actually form up "alongside" each other - the Poles would naturally expect to take the place of honour on the right flank as befits their seniority in both the Grande Armée and your collection. Hell hath no fury like a slighted Pole.
Rob, I hadn’t really thought about the fact they were Dutch, perhaps I should add them to the British OOB!
Those are very definitely nice units!
That is just a simply beautiful unit. The combination of the two really works!
Very, very nice!
Nice work there on your Lancers Ian- hope they do well in your forthcoming Battles.
Smartly done. A nice combination of uniforms - a red and a blue.
It seems remarkable to me that the figures can still be found to build again regiments with the iconic figures - a piece of veteran history in their own right.
A splendid sight, generously shared.
David, yes the colour combo does seem to work!
Kev, I hope they do well too as long as I play the French!
D of B - thanks for the comment. It has been a slow process to get enough figures for this full unit but then that’s part of the fun!
Fantastic. I took one look at these chaps, and immediately handed my watch and my snuffbox to my trumpeter. They look absolutely super - have you also polished up the Poles a bit? - they look uber-shiny. Great photo, once again - even with my new lightbox, I can't get anything as crisp as this. It must be coming up to new camera time...
Tony, well spotted the Poles have had a couple of coats of gloss varnish as they were painted back when I was using satin. Interesting what you say about the photos as they always seem to come out too dark for my liking even though I get good natural light in the cabin and have a couple of lamps!
A cracking looking combined unit…
They are delightful little gems… I am looking forward to seeing them in action.
All the best. Aly
Me too Aly, perhaps a Guard cavalry parade is in order?
Superb unit! I also mixed Dutch and Polish for my Guard Lancers. Gave up trying to source the correct HH French figures and used some spare Austrian Uhlans instead to make up the numbers.
Every bit as spectacular as they promised to be!
These are some serious toy soldiers, excellent. Do you have a link to a full current OOB ?
Respect. They are fabulous. I can't work out whether I look forward to seeing them in action, but with mojoworking's notion of Austrians in the ranks of the Garde, well, what can go wrong?
Come to think of it, all my Austrian ulans are commanded by FN40s. It's a globalisation thing.
Wow, superb colors and cracking paint job!
DS, no I don't, maybe something for the to-do list.
Nigel, don't worry as I have a unit of Austrian Uhlans waiting in the lead pile!
