I painted the first six figures for this unit some 12
years ago, but I’m pleased to have finally expanded them to a full regiment
which is no less than these splendid gentlemen deserve. They should be mounted
on black horses, but I didn’t know this when I started work on them, so they
are mostly on a mixture of dark brown mounts. All the figures are vintage
Hinton Hunt castings of BN/60 Household Cavalry Trooper (mounted) charging.
Next I'll be evening things up a bit by working on some French cavalry.

Lovely!
I wouldn't worry all that much about horse colour - perhaps at home or at the start of a campaign horses may all be the required colour, after a while though remounts and replacements would probably be more a case of 'sorry, couldn't get many the colour you want, will these do?'
They look great and that's what matters - and no doubt great fun to use. But please, how about a photo session of all your British cavalry? It's going to be a veritable tsunami of vintage horse flesh... if that's the correct collectives noun for equine lead?
A fine looking unit once again Ian. You are bashing them out recently :)
Cheers Matt!
Rob Y, my friend Goya sent me some interesting stuff relating to horse sales made by various Napoleonic regiments and it backs up what you say that the correct colour was not always available!
Rob, yes I think a parade is in order.
Thanks Lee, it helps that I am only having to paint half units to keep the interest going!
Just iconic. I like these gentlemen so much that I once directed all my artillery to shooting them until the survivors were moved out of range for strategic reasons. More French cavalry? You’ll need a lot to counter your 21st century heavy brigades.
Thanks Nigel, no worry about the French there are plenty of them waiting in the wings!
Splendid. They look quiet menacing.
My Life Guards are also on mixture of dark horse colours rather than black.
Fantastic!
Best Regards,
Stokes
What happened to the link your M&M rules? Is v6.2 still the latest?
Thanks Mark, when I get around to doing the Life Guards I will give them all black horses.
Thanks Stokes!
Rob, I took the link off but I can email you a copy of version 7. Can you drop me an email as I'm not sure I have your address.
Just brilliant!
All the best
WM
A splendid looking unit Iain...
One I need to have in my own collection.
All the best. Aly
Thanks Aly, I’m glad to have them!
