Command group done

I’ve completed the command group for the 24th ligne. The officer is FN/8 Officer (marching) and this casting is one I’ve had in my possession since 2006 having been included in one of my first eBay purchases for this project, nice to give him his own regiment at last.

The colour-bearer (FN/4) is a vintage one recently donated to me by Tony. My stocks of original colour-bearer figures were almost exhausted and the reproduction ones I have are just not the same quality. I’m a great fan of the cast-on flags but I find painting the lettering a right fiddle, I am in awe of those of you who can whip up a masterpiece on a bit of coke can!

The drummer is FN/6 Drummer (charging), I’ve painted a few of these now and although I’m sure this is a vintage casting, he seems a little on the small size.

So that’s it, the unit is complete and just needs basing.

Nice command group - my freshly cleaned up battalion has the same eagle bearer and drummer (the latter a gift from WM). I have the same officer figure as well but selected a more vigorous pose. I'm wondering mow whether to save him for Light infantry unit... Any-hoo I will have to start painting them soon once the two personalities are finished - but I am very slow when it comes to painting.

Any progress on the line vs column rules? I really thought that was looking very positive, the forced deployment feels old school to me - I think because it seems similar to Grant's rule not allowing cavalry to charge home frontally against unshaken close order infantry.

Thanks Stokes!

Rob, no further progress yet but I am planning a bigger solo game to try things out.

Any suggestion that the lettering on your flags is not completely perfect is utterly baseless and without foundation.... er, as is your new regiment...er...

Top notch, as always, Ian. I agree, the vintage HH standard bearers are by far the best, although the DKs run them a close second.

All the best

WM, the two flags you painted for me are the best In my collection but I do like the cast flags, even the Clayton ones. I cut the bases tonight so they won't be baseless for much longer!

Magnificent addition to the collection. How many figures do you have left to paint up?

Matt, according to 'the plan' about 400 so a way to go yet!

I too am in in awe of those who can whip up a masterpiece on a bit of coke can. In his enforced absence, your new eagle is very fine. I agree that you can't beat vintage originals here. Pity Marcus didn't do a broader range of colour bearers . Are the natty sky blue drum cases a strykerism, or was that a feature of some drummers of the line?

Nigel, I agree its a shame that he did not produce cast-on flags for nations other than France and Britain. I can't remember the origin of the sky blue drum hops but I've been painting them that way since I started this project!

Beautiful! In a soldierly fashion. I'm glad other people are doing this sort of thing so that I don't have too.
