I read in my Blandford (Uniforms of the Napoleonic Wars) that the Black Watch pipers had kilts with ‘Royal Stuart’ tartan rather than the ‘Government tartan’ of the other ranks so I’ve tried to represent that here. I really enjoyed painting this one and spent way too much time on him but I’m quite happy with the result.
This will probably be my last post until after the festive season so “Happy present giving day” (yes, I really did see this politically correct but sad seasonal greeting on TV yesterday) and a Happy New Year to you all!

I'm confused. How can you spend too much time painting a figure? I'm indebted to you for the info on Black Watch pipers, but damned if mine is getting a new kilt. Ich wunsche Ihnen frohliche Weihnacht und ein gutes Neujahr.
Excellent fellow, complete with correct shortbread-tin tartan - lovely job.
I think the official, PC greeting doesn't make adequate concession to those who do not wish to be happy. I'm not at all sure about that. Still shows insensitivity.

I think you may wisely have censored my comment because of the dodgy German greetings, but I would like to endorse what Roy said about time taken painting and pretty much everything said by Mr Foy...and the thanks for your great blog.
