I was beginning to think they would never get finished but here at last is my Hinton Hunt representation of the 2nd (Coldstream) Guards.
The figures used are all original vintage castings:
1 x BN/1 Officer (charging)
1 x BN/2 Sergeant (charging)
18 x BN/4 Private (firing)
1 x BN/8 Officer (standing)
1 x BN/12 Drummer (playing)
1 x BN/13 Ensign Regiment Colour
1 x BN/14 King's Colour Bearer, holding colours & sword
When I started this project I never expected to be able to put together a whole unit in the firing position, my other Guard unit (as you know) is made up of a mixture of poses as that was all I could get at the time. I think these lads look the bees knees.
The Coldstream's are just what's needed to defend Hougoumont and they will be getting the chance very soon!

Hi Stryker. The figures look great, but you should reverse the standard bearers as the Guards' colours were carried to the right of the union jack.

Thanks Paul, I was aware of that but as I made the same error with my previous Guard unit I wanted to stick with it for consistency. Perhaps the two standard bearers got mixed up in the heat of battle…

They are sumptuous! That Red really pops and the limited red white and blue palette (the grey has definite bluish tinge) gives them a strong unified appearance.
Despite the different codes I really can’t see any difference between the two ensigns?
When the Waterloo refight scheduled?

Thanks Rob, the grey is in the Foundry range and you’re right it has a nice blue tinge. The two colour bearers are identical the difference is in the flag design etched into them.

Bravo Ian! Anyone prepared defy the entire Brigade of Guards like this gets might vote. You must be secretly French.
And yes, Colours did get mixed up a bit sometimes. William Leake, who carried the Regimental Colour of the 52nd at Waterloo, specifically mentions this. He was very unhappy when he was ordered to position himself to the right of the King's Colour at one point. It probably saved his life given what happened to poor old Nettles, was was carrying it.
One of your best looking units, Ian, they will surely attract bullets. I also have my "regimental colours" on the left in my Guards battalions. But which were the regimental colours in Guards regiments?
The regimental colour in a Guard’s battalion is the Union flag and the crimson colour is the sovereign’s flag so the positioning is the same as a line battalion, it’s just that the flags themselves are reversed. Here’s some more information.

Late to the party as usual, but glad to be here for the final reveal. What is this about the reversal of the colours? Eventually I will rebase the Guards that Dick Tennant painted. They appear to have the flags in the usual orientation. Am I missing something?
