Blue is the new black

So I’m back on track with the Prussians after my little Austrian interlude and as you can see I’m not doing too badly by my standards. I’ve almost finished 20 of the fusiliers and then have only 4 command figures to paint and I’ll have the whole lot completed.

Now there was a debate a few posts back about Prussian blue actually being Prussian black according to the film Waterloo but then that film also showed French infantry armed with 1890 Russian bolt action rifles so perhaps (much as I like it) it may not be the best source of historical information. I paint my own Prussians with Foundry Deep Blue 20A which is the same blue I also use for the French. Prussian blue may well be correct but at normal playing distance the figures become too dark for my liking.

Splendid job, it is always satisfying to have another unit completed.

How many units will you have in your Prussian force?

What will be next for painting?

Hi Paul

I'll probably end up with 4 or 5 infantry units but for the moment the fusiliers will bring me up to just 2 plus the Jagers. Next up will be some Dragoons!

The 20A shade looks fine from here. I have the Foundry Prussian shade and it is so dark it looks almost black. Works on 25mm and above but not good for 20mm. Look forward to more!

I agree with that Matt - the photo actually makes the blue look lighter than it is.

Hi IAN- on Prussian Blue: I use the darkest Humbrol Blue though I add some Humbrol matt Black to the tinlet and mix it well-to make it just a tad darker than the original colour- I do the same with Acrylics...anyways great to see Your Progressing at a rapid rate with Your Prussians. Regards. KEV.
