I've mentioned before that I have struggled to find decent Austrian infantry castings for this project so for the next unit I'm resorting to something a bit different. The unit will be made up primarily of Der Kreigspieler figures with a smattering of Hinton Hunts by David Clayton.
Clayton on the left, DK on the right. |
The DK's are 88/1 Austrian Fusilier Charging and were a kind donation made by Aly. The pose is identical to the Hinton Hunt version (AN/4) and they are decent castings. The Clayton figures are rather weedy in comparison and I have had to carry out some remedial work to get rid of their waspish waists and pitted bases.
You can clearly see here that the Clayton figure has been on half-rations. |
The unit will represent the 26th Schroeder Regiment because who can't resist parrot green facings?

The DK figures look grand and match the Hintons very well, the full unit should look great.
Thanks Donnie, they should all blend together once based.
Great looking test figures Ian - these guys will be a great addition!
Cheers Tony, I hope so!
I like my men weedy! If I wanted chunky I'd go with 28mm. They both seem to paint up well, I guess the acid test will come when you stand them all up together to see how much the size difference is noticable in a full unit. Either way more Austrians is definitely the way to go.
Hopefully they will all blend in!
Rob is entirely correct about the way to go. It is indeed hard to find decent Austrian castings nowadays. I think they have all found their billets. More power to you efforts.
Clive told me back when I started this project that he had found Swedes and Russians the hardest figures to find and I think he was right. I would definitely put the Austrians next!
Looking good Ian…
A nice choice of facing colour…
I think the figures will fit in okay when the regiment is finished…
I will keep my eyes peeled for more Austrians…
All the best. Aly
Thanks Aly, hopefully I have just enough figures to finish the army!
Looking really good Ian. To join the 'chorus' these will match really well in the unit. I like some variety of figures in a unit, for what that may be worth!
Regards, James
I think they will blend in well. I am looking forward to seeing the final results.
Thanks James, I appreciate your comment!
Yes, me too Matt!
