Cavalry Staff Corps Trooper (Mark II)

Until Rob commented that he thought my Staff Trooper should have a red uniform I hadn't even realised that a Cavalry Corps Staff Trooper was a thing. I should have known better of course because why else would Marcus Hinton have included one in the 'personality figure' range.

BN/264 Cavalry Corps Staff Trooper carrying letter (horse BNH/4)

Looking at Wikipedea (which I should have done in the first place) I see that the corps was formed as a forerunner to the Royal Military Police. The aim being to crack down on criminal behaviour and desertion during the Peninsular War.

I did read that to start with the troopers probably wore their usual uniform so my original figure with light dragoon uniform is still ok.

Every day is a school day in the Hinton Hut.

A LITTLE knowledge is a good thing! (and ignorance can be bliss sometimes...) A very good solution though!

A cracking brace if SD troopers, the latest one looks strikingly different to the rest of the British cavalry, but that was probably the intent. To me he looks a bit Danish?

Very dapper, just what you need to keep order with "the scum of the earth"!

These are just great. What is he holding in his right hand?

Ross, you’re not wrong there!

Thanks Rob, better than looking Belgian!

Matt, I didn’t want to say that but you’re right!

Tony, it’s an important letter from the Duke!

Dick Tennant painted one in the traditional light Dragoon uniform and one as an officer of the staff corps as well, so yours are in good company! Very nice to have both.

What a lovely figure, he looks rather splendid in his red uniform, great work on him.

I love both figures and the contrast will make the Staff look even more glittering except plain old Wellington and Picton.

Out of interest whose gloss varnish do you use?

Here is a very original figurine whose red uniform will not clash with the British general staff. To have two, I converted light dragons by removing the fringes from their shoulder pads. I'm a little surprised your light dragon lost his shoulder pads too?

David, it’s good to know I’m not alone!

Thanks Donnie, he does look very red in the photo!

Stephen, I use Windsor & Newton water based gloss varnish and normally apply two or three coats.

FF, both figures are unmodified castings so this is the way they were sculpted.

A very handsome specimen! Isn't there a plate in Haythornethwait's book on Waterloo uniforms depicting just such a trooper/officer? In any case, a fine addition to your collection.

Kind Regards,

Stokes

He's completely glorious Ian! You should have a special rule so that if he's captured all of Wellington's secret plans will have to be revealed.

Stryker said...

Thanks Stokes! There is a Royal wagon train officer in that book with a similar type of uniform so that may be what you are remembering.

Wm, nice rule idea but wasn’t his plan always the same to “beat the French!”
