That’s what it says on the Hinton Hunt painting
instruction sheet for AN.73 Austrian Cuirassier (mounted) charging so that's what my next unit will be.
As I painted the test figure, I realised that it's very similar to the Austrian Dragoon figure in the unit I painted last year, basically the only difference is the addition of the cuirass and the removal of the carbine and wooden stake.
When this unit is finished, I will have a full brigade of
Austrian Heavy Cavalry which the Allies are going to need if they’re to stand a
chance against all that French Guard Cavalry.

These are gorgeous - Austrian uniforms are always elegant in their simplicity. Looking forward to seeing the whole unit but given the amount you've posted lately you desreve to take your time with these.

The Kaiserlichs are always cited as having good cavalry, but they do come off second best against the French. . These look good, but they will need some chums to take on French guard.

“Second best to the French” indeed. Only when outnumbered...as they invariably were. and whose fault was that? Ah, well, erm. Now, the dragoon figure is completely different from the cuirassier. It has a ramrod on a chain. Seriously, though, folks, this is a superb look, really celebrating that elegant simplicity. Well done, Sir.

Lovely Austrians indeed. I have always been keen to paint some because of examples such as yours, but alas I fear I won't be on Earth long enough to finish the French Guard, much less the Russians. I might have to start exercising more and drinking less...
Just to clarify - I assure you all I am in good health. My concerns stem solely from the slowness of my painting and the huge backlog of lead! I figure I am good for another thirty years of painting.
These look gorgeous Ian. The blue facings set off against the white uniforms so well by your black lining (or was it the 'cheating' black undercoat method, my favourite version?!).

Thanks James, my technique is a bit of both, I black undercoat then block paint up to the lines. I’m not all that neat so then go back over the ‘joins’ with a fine brush!
