Young Guard – Completed

It’s taken slightly over two months but the Young Guard are finally finished. This unit has been a labour of love involving some serious flash removal and running repairs plus conversions and flag painting by Matt B as well as concentrated painting on my part.

Most of the figures here were vintage ones that the original owner bought direct from Marcus Hinton in 1965 (the remainder are Clayton’s). They had never been painted so the job of getting them table ready fell to me some half a century after they were cast - I hope I’ve done them justice.

For the record the figures are:
16 x FN/75 Voltigeur Guard (charging, one converted to drummer)
5 x FN/77 Voltigeur Guard (running at the trail)
2 x FN/70 Young Guard Officer (charging)
1 x FN/74 Young Guard Officer (marching)

One other unit finished this week was a Boer War British one painted for me by Matt G – click here to take a look on my Boer War in Miniature blog.

A lovely looking unit. It has taken me 2 months to do my 5th Ligne.

After a 50 year wait you have certainly done these boys proud. I hope to see these in action soon.

Thanks Mark, it was probably time they were painted!

You have done them proud - a judgement underlined by the Emperor himself being unable to take his eyes off them despite the frantic gesturing by the agitated officer in front of him.
I'm particularly struck by the shade of blue used for the jackets - what is it?

Thanks Rob - I use Foundry 20A Deep Blue for my French and Prussians, 2 coats.

Absolutely stunning. Well worth the 50-year wait, I'd say. Just think, if you'd painted them when you were 10 they probably wouldn't have come out quite so superbly!
They will always be top class to me, of course, but what class are they going to be in M&M?
Best regards, WM

WM - if I painted them when I was 10 they would still have had most of the flash attached! Grade A I think...

Yes, magnificent indeed! May their morale remain high, and may they follow orders and fight well in many a future tabletop encounter.

Best Regards,

Stokes

What's to add? They are everything Marcus would approve of. Bet they're your favourite battalion. But what is Cambronne's excuse for thus waving his sword in front of the Emperor?

Stryker said...

Thanks Nigel, and I agree that Cambronne is being a little over enthusiastic!

Well done! 24 figures in two months is right on track to meet your goal.
