A new line foot artillery battery is almost ready with the figures just requiring a coat of varnish - and a gun of course.
The figures are all vintage castings painted by yours truly – from left to right:
FN/34 Gunner (positioned for manning gun)
FN/30 Officer (pointing)
FN/32 Gunner (holding cannon ball)
FN/31 Gunner (firing the gun)
There’s a good chance that these lads will be seeing action in the not too distant future so stay tuned!

Beautiful work Ian,
I have just finished varnishing, but still have to base, a vintage artillery officer like yours, but he is set to command a voltigeur company from a new line battalion rather than a battery. They are the most wonderful little figures to paint.
Lovely work Ian, the French Arm is indeed growing look forward to seeing them in action or on parade or both.

Michael - I particularly enjoy painting HH officers as they are generally beautifully animated. Not so keen on varnishing though - first attempt has dried matt!

These lads are up to the parade ground standard I have come to expect from your brush, Ian. Mind you, I regard it as a personal triumph when anything dries matt these days. Don't wish to open a fight, though..........

if you are still using Humbrol satin cote, try adding a second coat after 24 hours, if this does not work I would go to the Humbrol website and get myself a new pot. They have been reformulated to the original specs and are now manufactured in the UK again. I purchase gloss and satin this way and got the new batch and have had no problems, however I always apply 2 coats 24 hours apart. Hope this may be of help.

Matt - I still have a lot of stuff left but the French army is more or less up to strength now. I intend to add another unit of cavalry and then turn my eye to the British and Prussians!
