DK Dragoons

The sharp witted amongst you may have realised that in expanding the Inniskilling’s I made my squadron of six DK British Dragoons redundant. The solution to this was to refurbish another six figures to make them up to a full unit.

The figures are Der Kreigspieler 825-215 British Dragoons, and these castings were all donated to me by Don over 10 years ago. I have only touched up Don’s old paintwork, put socks on the horses and in some cases changed the facing colours – I also converted one to a trumpeter because you know how much I like doing that now.

The unit will represent the 1st Royal Dragoons who were the English component of the Union Brigade at Waterloo and famously captured the Eagle of the French 105th Regiment.

  1. Well now those DKs ended up looking quite nice and the trumpeter conversion is excellent. You certainly made quick work of that addition! Nothing like a half unit to light a fire under efforts to bring them up to strength!

  2. David, yes you're right about painting half a unit! I didn't do much to these and what painting I did was in the style of Don's original paintwork so they were pretty speedy.

  3. You're on a roll at the moment, I can't wait to see what's next to roll off the painting bench.

  4. Thanks Rob, it will have to be those Greys to complete the Union Brigade!

  5. You are definitely turning out some lovely stuff at a fair old pace, congratulations!

  6. Lovely work on those Ian. I take it that you are painting indoors at the moment and not in the Hinton Hut?

  7. Matt, it's much faster when you only have to paint half a unit. Good to hear from you!

  8. Lee, the week before last I had to move indoors as it was getting down to minus 3 outside but I am back out now - perhaps the 3 inches of snow on the roof is providing insulation!

  9. Your British cavalry are being heavily reinforced with units being bought up to strength. I almost feel sorry for the French.

I am planning to paint a French cavalry unit in 'Frogruary' followed by a Prussian one in 'Marsch'

  10. You are hardy folk up there Ian :) I'm still getting used to the cold again, I just checked the weather back in Gandia where we were and tomorrow will be 20 degrees and full sun! Still, no regrets coming home, I was so looking forward to attending more wargaming shows but fingers crossed for later this year. All the best.
    Lee.

  12. A lovely shade of scarlet! British cavalry units in miniature are the very best in my view.

    Best Regards,

  13. Mark, I have an expansion of the French cavalry in mind once the British are complete!

  14. Aly, yes me too - I have almost finished the first two of the Greys.

  15. I was wondering what you would do with the DKs....I must be one of the sharp-witted ones then!
You did with them just what I hoped you would. They look great, but I must admit that it still stings a bit when one of my DK units carve up my Hinton Hunt regiments.
    All the best

  16. WM, you are without doubt sharp witted! The DKs have grown on me over the years especially those like this model that are not straight HH lookalikes.

  17. Regiment after regiment. Ian, you are like the Union Brigade...unstoppable. Still +1 for vintage HHs, though?

  18. Thanks Nigel, I am currently reviewing that rule!
