Napoleon & Friends

This may be my last post for a while as the moving date looms large and what more fitting a picture to show you than this one I snapped about three years ago of Napoleon and some of his marshals reviewing the Imperial Guard.

In the back row (from left to right) are FN224 General (painted as Lannes), Baraguay d’Hilliers, Soult, Murat, Junot, Davout, and Massena . In the front are Bessieres, Napoleon, Dorsenne and Cambronne. What strikes me the most is that in all this time I have only managed to repaint three of the figures shown here. There’s a lot more painting to be done.

Mindful of Matt’s horror story about losing some of his soldiers during a house move I have been negotiating with Mrs S over the safe passage of my Hinton Hunt collection in the car rather than the removals van. However, with the back seat to be stuffed with Mrs S’s knitting, our two dogs, the kettle and various heirlooms this may not be a done deal yet.

  1. Hey Junot wears a beautiful uniform!
    Good luck with the move!

  2. Good luck with the move. Clearly label the boxes and you may avoid Stupid Scenario #1:

Take two identical boxes, place an entire collection of Franco Prussian War figures in one, and a load of old toot that you are not sure if you want to keep in the other. Tell noone the difference between the two boxes. A few weeks down the line decided to loose the toot box. Tell son to grab the box and have a trip to the dump. Fast forward a few months when the air turns blue when I decide to open my box of FPW's and check they are all OK.....

    A cautionary tale!

  3. I love that Cambronne figure. Hinton obviously had the talent to animate and would have been nice to have seen far more exciting figures as well as some of the rather dour positions produced.

Good Luck with the move. Those Hintons are heirlooms so get them on the back seat safe.

  4. There's always the option of dropping the valuables off at a mate's house pre-move, and picking them up later. That's what i did last time - though i still haven't collected half the stuff...

  6. It would be nice to have a bottle of Gevrey Chambertin in the picture, I think its their vineyard that Napoleon was marching his men past when he gestured to the vine clad hillsides of Burgundy and said
'Cest ca mes braves, pour que vous combattez!'

  7. Sounds like a great idea - I'll pop down to ASDA and see if they have one!
