Rather predictably (for anyone who knows me) I changed my mind about the building bases I completed a few weeks ago. The plain green bases just weren’t working for me so out came the brown paint and flock, lots of flock.
My original idea was to go for an old school look rather than a more mainstream effect however because I wargame on flocked terrain tiles the bright green bases just stood out too much. I’m happier with the way they look now being somewhat more scenic but not too much so.
This has been a pleasant distraction from finishing the British light dragoons but hopefully I’ll have those done by the end of the week.
Next sterp Ian will be weathering the buildings and putting in a vegetable garden!
ReplyDeleteRoy - why didn't I think of that?
ReplyDeleteVery smart, Ian!
ReplyDeleteOooh...are those Guard Voltigeurs lining up behind the Light Dragoons?
They look a little less harsh with the addition of flock, I'd say it's an improvement!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
I've never been one of the "better to be wrong than change your mind" school but I do tend to be of the "terrain such match the table" school.
ReplyDeleteI like the look of these.
hmm as I hit enter I noticed that my cbook decided that 'should' is spelled 'such' or something like that. No idea.
ReplyDeleteWM - you have very sharp eyesight!
ReplyDeleteIain - yes they do look better and will fit in nicely with the rest of my terrain.
ReplyDeleteRoss - I tend to change my mind a lot, I believe this is caused by being a Gemini born in the Year of the Monkey, or maybe it's not?
ReplyDeleteI really like the new look, I think being a bit more restrained it will keep the focus on the figures.

There was another option. Paint your wargame table the same colour as the builing bases. You have chosen the easier option and they look very smart indeed.
ReplyDeleteRob - yes, I hope so.
ReplyDeleteMark - If I had space for a permanent table I would probably go for the plain green painted finish but as I have to use my old polystyrene tiles the flock does fit in better.
I think it's an improvement Ian, good decision :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Lee, I wish all my home improvements came under the same heading!
ReplyDeleteWell for what it's worth, (no comedians, thank you) the Archduke thinks they look vastly better in their nice new flock. Now, LG, I know a bloke who produced buildings complete with vegetable garden............
ReplyDeleteArchduke - Looking back at Roy's buildings for Vintage Waterloo was part of the inspiration to revisit my own. They were very nice with detatchable roof I believe although not made by LG's own hand!
ReplyDeleteLovely looking buildings, will they be used in a refight of Plancenoit?

Paul, you're reading my mind! First I need to complete (start and complete that is) my unit of Young Guard.
